It is well known how much of a hassle it can be having to drop off your packages at the post office. However, the USPS has options that can save you that stress.
The USPS has three options available to pick up your outgoing packages. They include: Pickup on Demand, Collection Service, and Package Pickup Service. The Collection Service ® and Package Pickup Service ® are both free. On the other hand, Pickup on Demand ® comes with a fee.
How much does it cost for USPS to pick up a package?
Package pickups are generally free. It is one of the three options the USPS has for outgoing packages. All you need to do is just schedule it for a day that your mail carrier is delivering mail to you.
However, if you intend to carry out a Pickup on Demand®, another option, it will incur a certain service fee. This option is for those who want to have their packages picked up within a particular time frame.
How do you get packages picked up at home?
Scheduling a pickup with the USPS will save you a lot of time and effort from going to the post office. Below I will list the steps you can follow to schedule your pickup with the USPS.
- The first step is to go to the USPS.com website.
- You click on “quick tools” and then, in the drop-down menu, you click on “schedule pick up.”
- On the page that appears, you fill in your details, such as your name, your state, your street address, your zip code, your phone number, etc. After that, you click on a tab labeled “check availability.”
- This will take you to a page where you will see a series of steps to follow.
- The first step involves you being asked to input your location. It happens that not all locations are available for pickup. Due to this, they will want to verify if that address is eligible for pickups.
- The second step involves you being asked where you will leave your packages. You are advised to put your packages in a location that your carrier can easily access. You can then input any additional instructions for your mail carrier.
- The third step involves you being asked the specific time you want the package to be picked up. You have two options there: you can decide to have it picked up during regular mail delivery, which will cost you nothing. However, if you want it picked at a specific time of your choice, you have to pay a fee of $25.
- The last step involves you being asked the number of packages and the types of packages you want picked up. It could be Priority Mail, First Class Package Service, Returns, etc.
- After that, you go to the pickup summary, where you input how much your package weighs. You must note, however, that the USPS does not pick up packages that weigh more than 70 lbs.
- The last thing to do is to click on the check box besides the terms and conditions, and then you click on “schedule pickup”. You don’t even need to have an account to create this schedule.
Is it free to schedule a USPS pickup?
Scheduling a USPS pickup is free but is dependent on the time you want it picked up. All you need to do is just log on to the USPS website and follow the instructions above.
If you want it picked up during mail delivery, then it is free. However, if you want it picked up at a time of your own choosing, then a $25 service fee applies.

Will USPS pick up a package with a prepaid label?
Yes, they will. USPS returns, or Parcel Return Service, are all part of the package that will qualify for a free pickup.
Why isn’t USPS picking up my package?
There are a number of reasons why your packages are not being picked up. Some of them include:
One involves the manager not releasing the order to your mail carrier to pick up the package. The mail carrier could get to the pickup location because he hadn’t received the order from the manager. He will have no idea that this is a package he is supposed to pick up.
Another one is that your parcel or package may not be very visible. To avoid such an occurrence, it is advisable to chat up your postmaster ahead of time and discuss with them where a particular parcel or package will be located.
